Vehicle1989 Yamaha FZR 250R
EVlyn was created from the rolling chassis
of a Yamaha FZR 250R. The previous owner put
a piston through the engine and sold the
bike. I bought the chassis to give her (EVlyn
a new life) This is the 1st road legal
electric motorcycle conversion in South
Africa. To the best of my knowledge this is
the 1st electric motorcycle in the world to
ever use Lithium titanate batteries.
Conversion Completed: 12/12/2019
MotorMars me1003 Permanent Magnet DC
Motor is a brushed DC Mars me1003. Capable of
11.5kw continuous and 20kw peak. (400 amps
for 30 seconds)
DrivetrainCurrently a 12 tooth front sprocket and a
56 tooth rear sprocket for a 4.6:1 ratio
which gets about 90kmh or 56mph. I will be
swapping the front sprocket for a 15 tooth
which will give a ratio of 3.7:1 and a top
speed of 112 kmh or 70 mph. My original setup
used a 12 tooth front sprocket and 72 tooth
rear sprocket but the bike didn't have a great
top speed. The acceleration was fantastic but
more than I needed.
ControllerAlltrax 7245
Controller is a programmable DC controller
capable of 450 amps peak
Batteries32 Yinlong Lithium Titanate, 84.00 Volt, Lithium-Ion
The battery is a 32S1P Yinlong Lithium
Titanate battery. 3kwh of storage.
System Voltage84 Volts
Charger 2kw fast charger
A GTK 2kw fast charger capable of charging
the batteries in about a hour depending on the
battery state of charge.
HeaterJacket
DC/DC ConverterMeanwell 84v to 12v
Converts the battery voltage from about
84v to 12v DC for the bikes original electronics
like lights and indicators.
InstrumentationBluetooth on a cellphone from the SmartBMS
that monitors each of the 32 cells voltages,
total voltage, charge amperage and voltage etc.
Top Speed70 MPH (112 KPH)
Actually the bike currently is only doing
56 mph (90kmh) currently but the new sprocket
on its way will push the speed up to 112kmh or
70mph. This will decrease acceleration a bit
which is fine as she already has excess
torque.
Acceleration0-56 mph in about 5 to 6 seconds
Range31 Miles (49 Kilometers)
About 31 miles/50km. I have a 2kw fast
charger on board the bike to allow for quick
charges from any normal 220v electricity socket
Watt Hours/Mile109 Wh/Mile
If I accelerate like a normal person this
number drops considerably.
Curb Weight140 Pounds (63 Kilograms)
Not sure but I would guesstimate close to
stock weight of 310 pounds or 140kg but probably
lighter as I have removed a lot of extra weight.
Conversion TimeI started in 2013 when I received my
motor,controller,contactor,throttle and
the purchase of the bike. When I saw the cost
of lithium batteries I stopped the
project.Only in the last 6 months did I decide
to make the investment and bought the
batteries and anything else I needed. I
believe I could have converted in less than 6
months if I didn't delay.
Conversion Cost$5500 with mistakes. Probably $4500
without mistakes
Additional FeaturesAdded a alarm.
Kickstand safety (Bike wont run if kickstand is down)
Immobilizer from BMS
Temperature monitor for motor.
One of the best things I have ever done was convert this
bike. It was and is a dream come true. To anyone wanting to do a
conversion... I highly recommend starting. It can be anything from a
ebike to a car....or a motorcycle. It was worth every cent.
Especially since its $0.42 for a full charge and about 31 miles. :)
