Vehicle | 2002 Citroen Berlingo A conversion from a petrol Berlingo (we don't get the electric ones in Australia!), this van had been through a lot before we converted it. Damaged engine, and noisy gearbox with leaking oil.
Motor | EVE M2-AC30-L 3-Phase AC 30 kw nominal AC induction water cooled motor. The motor was sold by Electro Vehicles Europe. Initially torque and accleration was poor, however we have been able to improve this and now the car performs well.
Drivetrain | AC motor conected to existing gearbox.
Controller | MES DEA Tim 600 Compact AC induction water cooled controller, tricky instructions, but managing to configure it. Ongoing tweaking to improve performance and regenerative braking.
Batteries | 90 Thunder Sky 90 amp hour, 3.20 Volt, Lithium Iron Phosphate EV Power BMS system performing well
System Voltage | 288 Volts
Charger | Zivan NG3 modified for LFP chemistry
Heater | Mes-Dea 4kw RM4 water heater, easy installation and good heat production
DC/DC Converter | Meanwell PSP-600
Instrumentation | EVision Gen 1
Top Speed | 75 MPH (120 KPH)
Acceleration | Builds steadily to a good speed. Pulls very well up hills, acceleration continuous.
Range | 65 Miles (104 Kilometers) Range tests ongoing.
Watt Hours/Mile | 300 Wh/Mile
EV Miles |
| ||||||
Seating Capacity | 2 adults
Curb Weight | 2,866 Pounds (1,302 Kilograms) 150 kilograms heavier than the original weight, however the vehicle can handle the extra weight easily
Tires | Standard | ||||||
Conversion Time | 2 years
Conversion Cost | $40,000 AUD
Additional Features | Clutchless gear shifts, regenerative braking (wonderful!), easy to drive. Smooth and quiet driving experience. Not having a clutch makes shifting gears difficult (especially with regen active).
After driving a DC Citroen Berlingo, this one is so much better. The hill climbing performance is a vast improvement over a DC model, the car is excellent on the freeway, with constant acceleration at all speeds and high efficiency. Water cooling keeps the motor and controller at low temperatures even after long drives. Apart from the lack of noise you forget you are driving electric within a few minutes. 1st gear - 50 km/h (only used on steep hills, and for reversing) 2nd - 70 km/h 3rd - 110 km/h 4th, 5th not used |
