Vehicle1981 Ford Escort (Jet Electrica)
This is a Jet Electrica which is a factory converted Ford Escort chassis.
The cars were built on brand new chassis as EV's by Jet Industries during the early 1980s. These cars have proven their utility and reliability over the years. This particular car is in good operating condition (26,100 miles on it). It was recently driven to the present location where a tired battery pack was removed and some TLC was applied. With new batteries this car is ready
to drive.

A 1981 incarnation, this car is in remarkable shape for its model year.
Originally configured for 96 volts when first made, it has been significantly upgraded during its lifetime. It is now set up for 120 volts with a Curtis controller and a Sevcon DC to DC converter. A four speed transmission with clutch deliver the power from the Prestolite series wound DC motor to the front wheels. Fifteen 8 volt batteries (165AH to 185AH) is one ideal configuration for this car providing 35 to 40 miles of real world driving range. The original gas heater is not functional. EV specific instrumentation is well covered by an in dash mounted Link 10 unit.

The charger provided with the car is a Cybertronics model CYB1200-120. It runs on 120VAC making charging opportunities virtually unlimited. Output is rated at 120VDC at 15 amps making it an effective overnight charger but no racehorse.
