Vehicle2008 Originally a frame similar to the Bladez series
A steel frame stand-up scooter enhanced for high performance capability
MotorUnite Motor MY1020 750 Watt 36 Volt Permanent Magnet DC
Strong motor imported from USA (TNC Scooters). 2800RPM rated speed at 36Volts, however, motor has been over-volted to 48Volts using a new controller.

I was considering upgrading the original 500 watt motor to a 1000W version, but the 750W My1020 is exactly the same size so no frame modifications would be required. The 1000W motor is half an inch longer.
DrivetrainMY1020 750 Watt motor with 13 tooth sprocket driving a 54 tooth sprocket on the rear wheel.
Controller 48V Controller LB37
48V Controller LB37 from TNC Scooters capable of 50 Amp output. This is to replace the original 36V controller and to supply the new motor with 48 Volts.
Batteries40, 1.20 Volt, Nickel-Metal Hydride
40 tabbed cells soldered into four 12V packs, then connected in series onboard the scooter. These Ni-Mh cells were chosen for their high capacity (14Ah per cell!), their ease of charging (with no memory effect) and their light weight. Total weight of 48V pack is less than 9kgs. This pack can run for almost twice as long at constant current output than an equivalent capacity lead acid pack due to the linear nature of SLA discharge.

SPECIFICATIONS:

Tenergy Ultra high capacity 14,000mAh. e.g. 14 Ah NiMH F size battery (Sometimes called Long D). The highest Capacity of NiMH cell in the market
1.2 V working voltage.
Standard discharging rate: 14Amp ( Recommended and warranted)
Highest Discharging rate for continuous running: 45Amp
Max. Discharging capability for short time: 65Amp
Dimension: 33 mm Dia. x 91 mm H ( 1.3" Dx 3.5" H )
Weight: 246 g
Can be rapidly charged at 1 C (13A current) rate with auto cut off device, or standard charging at 1.2 A current for 12 Hrs.
Can be recharge from up to 1000 times at standard charging and discharging conditions.
Memory free operation means you can charge batteries without discharging.

TOTAL: 0.672Kw/H
System Voltage48 Volts
Charger 2 UNIVERSAL SMART CHARGERS
Each charger charges up a 12V set of batteries at a time, at a rate of 1.8A.
Once finished, the chargers work on the remaining 2 sets of batteries. These batteries can handle a 1C charge current making it possible to upgrade in the future for a 1 hour charge-up system.
Heaterer yeh
InstrumentationNone yet. Might get an RC power meter or a bike cycle computer
Top Speed27 MPH (43 KPH)
Top speed is between 25 and 30mph. The advantage over minibikes is the accessibility of this power. You should be able to maintain top speed for half an hour at least.
AccelerationVery good. Lots of power to play with and excellent current supply from batteries. Top speed in less than 10 seconds.
Range30 Miles (48 Kilometers)
Ni-Mh batteries are so good that they can be taken far beyond the point where lead acid batteries are dead.
Seating Capacity1 to stand up. could pull 2 as long as 1 isnt a fatty. Could tie a rope on the back and pull a line of skaters. Toque is very impressive.
Curb Weight50 Pounds (22 Kilograms)
Batteries less than 9Kgs....
This is the main issue with EVs, the battery weight. Li-ion seem the best at the moment, but if charged/discharged incorrectly they can explode. Ni-Mh cells are much easier and safer to use for a project like this. I would not reccomment lead acid. I have built a previous scooter with three 18Ah Lead acid batteries onboard. The weight wrecks performance!
TiresMinimoto racing pneumatic tyres. Very good and grippy. The rear valve is a nightmare 2 get at. Need to remove the wheel, chain and disk brake!
Conversion Timefew months
Additional FeaturesThe scooter has disc brakes all around. Very strong cable controlled brakes on the front and rear wheels can stop the scooter dead! Also, they cut out the motor power to the wheel.
Rear wheel has free wheeling ability.
I bought the frame on ebay. The seller didn't promote the scooter very technically, so i ended up with a 500 watt 36V beast for 20 quid. The speed controller was included but I fit another 1 i had which brought it back to life. Then the modifications began.
This scooter could whoop minibike ass. 12V 12Ah lead acid batteries last for about 15 minutes before they're useless!
Scooter folds in half!
There is no suspension so i can imagine riding this thing is gonna b scary and dangerous.

When batts are charged each cell is 1.4V. So on full charge the motor is over volted from 36V rated to 56V!
