The tractor used to have an engine rpm governor (centripetal linkage to throttle). After setting rpm's for whatever work the tractor was doing, speed was mostly driven by the hydro lever position. Both of these controls are hand operated (rpm left, hydro right). This is not convenient when you have loader levers and a steering wheel to control. I added a hall effect foot throttle to the alltrax (which required a throttle map upload from their tech support and a few diodes on the input). The result is that tractor power is now foot controlled. In addition to direction and speed, the hydro drive position now modulates the relative pump speed between the drive and the loader. This gives fine control over the actual operation and you (mostly) have enough hands to use the controls together: steering, hydro lever, loader levers. You really only ever need to adjust two at once. It is unfortunate that both the hydro lever and loader controls are on the same side. I do find myself reaching across with my left to control the hydro while using the loader with the right, but it works. |
