Vehicle1994 Chevrolet S-10
Typical S10. This was a friends' truck, which I've driven numerous times while under his ownership. He took meticulous care of his vehicles. I bought it from him for $980 just to get it out of his driveway, where it had sat for a month, un-driven. I thought it would make an excellent candidate for conversion, with my knowing it's relative good body & mechanical shape. And, it IS an S10; any needed replacement parts should be a dime-a-dozen on craigslist. :-)
Drivetrain2.2L 4 cylinder 5-Sp.
Batteries0.00 Volt,
InstrumentationTried playing the drums when I was ten. C'mon... nothing wrong with a little sense of humor to lighten up!
Seating CapacitySingle seat: Room for two big 'uns, or three little 'uns!
Curb Weight3,000 Pounds (1,363 Kilograms)
3000 pounds with an ICE and all the fixins.
TiresFour.

OK. Enough playing. Back to work.
Conversion TimeBought the truck 11/6/10 for $980.
Conversion CostHoist: $150 6/4/10
Truck: $980 11/6/10
Bought the truck on 11/6/10 for $980. The price was right, the truck, decent. Truck has a slight knocking noise coming from the engine. Trans is OK with about 130k on the clock. This will be my first conversion, so I decided not to go all out and buy the first $4,000 S10 I came across. If I do another one, I'll bump myself up the quality and price scales accordingly.

I have a couple other summer projects going on, so this EV will be on the back burner, likely until fall 2010 or spring of '11.

The truck is currently sitting in storage behind a buddy's garage for the time being. I am using this downtime to plan for my project, such as saving up the amount necessary for the conversion, lining up fabricators, welders, suppliers, and so forth.

The basic plan, presumably like everyone elses', is to remove the engine and all the other unnecessary components, including AC components, ebay or craigslist all those components to offset the conversion costs, and proceed in a methodical, logical manner until the end result is achieved.

I am in no race with time, myself, or anyone else. I have no set date upon which this project must be completed. This will just be a weekend/evening hobby/project to be worked upon at my leisure.
