Vehicle | 1994 Toyota Tercel Nice car for what it is. Toyota made a well built car, easy to work on. Converted from lead to Lithium in March 2014
Motor | Azure Dynamics/Solectria AC24LS 3-Phase AC Azure with regen brakes
Drivetrain | 4 Speed FWD | ||||
Controller | Azure Dynamics/Solectria DMOC445
Batteries | 132 International Battery (defunked) 60ah, 3.20 Volt, Lithium Iron Phosphate 2P66S International Battery was an Obama green company that went out of business. Picked these up cheap. Best I can tell this are an upgraded Thundersky.
System Voltage | 220 Volts
Charger | Eltek IP20 This is a charger sold by EVovlve Electrics. Made by Volvo. Does about 7 amps using 120AC input and 15 amps using 220AC input
Heater | Was Electric element from EA...caught fire. Then I designed a water heater system...too much current. So I ended up putting a $20 heater from WalMart in the dash. Wired it up straight and run it off a 12vdc to 120vac inverter. Seems to work ok.
DC/DC Converter | Zivan NG1 Seems to do the trick
Instrumentation | Original speedo, 12 volt amp gauge and system amp gauge by Wescot. Added tablet to the center console with the Torque app. Pulls all data from the OrienBMS via CAN and bluetooth. This is "kick-ass"
Top Speed | 90 MPH (144 KPH) Works for me! Starts bouncing around after about 85mph
Acceleration | It does the 1/4 in 21 secs. Seems to do OK now with Lithium Battery. (Lost about 400lb from upgrade from lead)
Range | 110 Miles (176 Kilometers) A solid 90 plus miles with average speed of 55MPH (84 miles round trip to work - Avg speed of 51mph)
Watt Hours/Mile | 290 Wh/Mile 275 at 60mph and 250 at 50
EV Miles |
| ||||
Seating Capacity | 2 adults
Curb Weight | 2,600 Pounds (1,181 Kilograms) Two Door. Org Curb 1950lbs.
Tires | Upgraded wheels from 13" to 15" with LRR tires. Not sure if it increased mileage but I no longer use 4th gear.
Conversion Time | 9 months. Would have been sooner but was waiting on parts. Some major EV parts were very slow.
Conversion Cost | $20,306.93 Total Includes everything. Paint, Suspension, Interior. Special tools along the way. Even the Black electrical tape is included in price. (Now all I need is a blanket to keep me warm because I am in the doghouse for spending twice as much I told the wife it would cost) I figure I made about 2-3K in mistakes. Biggest and most costly one was dealing with Electro Automotive, Live and Learn. UPDATE Added $7K for Lithium Batteries, BMS, Charger and other misc parts.
Additional Features | New brakes and flex lines, CV shafts/joints, heaver spring all around. Used set of seats from junk yard and a front left fender. All new carpet on floor and covering the battery box. Paint job. One battery box sunk in floor in place of gas tank with 3 groups of 8 batteries (24 batteries total). Sliding box on top of that, 9 groups of 8 batteries (72 Batteries total), which will slide to the trunk for maintenance. 36 arranged around side boxes. All over the rear wheels When in use the sliding box is forward in place of rear seat. All relay PCB mounted and place under dash in place of ECU module. All wires wrapped and loomed. Reset the odometer to zero since I already had the dash apart. Amp and 12 volt meter in dash in place of gas gauge. Replaced radio with Dell tablet and using the Torque App to show all batteries data. Really cool Lots of time and fun
Azure Dynamics was a good company and very helpful. I had nothing but high regards for them. EVolve Electrics seem to be a straight forward company to work with. I really like the OrienBMS. They seem to know their stuff. I would never do business with Electro Automotive nor should anyone else. Bad customer service. parts wrong or cheap. In fact it took almost a year to get parts I am still waiting on the repair of my charger and they have stopped returning my emails. It was never right and I had to purchase from another vendor to get the car on the road. As far as I am concerned EA should not be in the business any longer. Update - Sued EA and won...however collecting is another problem. |
